¡AGITPOP! Press performative Lecture for the Paris-Ass Book Far in collaboration with Paris-based drag performer Blanche Poubelle
“Le Injuste Prix” was a collaborative, bi-lingual lecture-performance that presented the research behind each of our 5 ¡AGITPOP! Press publications in the form of “The Price is Right” game show. I created oversized stage-prop versions of each book that were used to present our work, followed by four audience-interactive games hosted by performer Blanche Poubelle. Each game was structurally based on one from the iconic game show but curated to correspond to the content of our publications. In “Complot” (Cover-Up) players had to cover up the face of a world leader with the common household item that the CIA had attempted to assassinate them with. In “On A La Banane” (a French phrase meaning “we’re thrilled!”) players chose a banana, which when peeled revealed a trivia question about the history of Banana Republics. In “Space Master Race” players had to correctly guess trivia related to the history of Operation Paperclip (where the US expunged the records of over 1500 Nazi scientists to start NASA) in order to get their astronaut to Mars. And in “Blanchiment d’ Argent” (Money Laundering) players opened up a washing machine to extract a sparkly dollar bill with trivia about the history of US corporate-military collusion. Sound effects / music from the original game show were used, and players one a variety of prizes sourced from other vendors at the Paris-Ass Book Fair.
